After over four years of waiting, I finally embarked on a much-anticipated trip outside of Malaysia! My destination: the sun-kissed shores of Hainan Island, China. The excitement was palpable as we assembled at KLIA, ready to trade the familiar for a tropical paradise. Our flight to Haikou took just over 3 hours, and upon arrival, we dove headfirst into a cultural feast.

Our first stop was Huochetou Million Seafood Square, a market touted as China's biggest. Here, towering displays of fresh seafood dazzled our senses. It was a true immersion into the vibrant culinary scene that awaited us.

Day 2: Unveiling Hainan's Rich Tapestry

The second day unveiled the diverse tapestry of Hainan. We started with a journey back in time at the Qilou food street. Nestled in Haikou's old town, this street retained the charm of its past with its unique arcade architecture. The aroma of local delicacies filled the air, whetting our appetites for the culinary adventures ahead.

Next, we ventured to the Fushan Coffee Cultural Town. Here, we delved into the world of coffee, from appreciating the global coffee planting culture to exploring the trade center and the world coffee port. The highlight was undoubtedly the chance to observe coffee production and savor a delightful tasting session.

Our day culminated on the enchanting Ocean Flower Island. This island paradise, comprised of three flower-shaped islets, offered a breathtaking backdrop for relaxation. We checked into the Castle Hotel, ready to embrace the island's tranquility.

Day 3: A Journey Through Legends and Serenity

Day three was dedicated to exploring the Nanshan cultural tourism zone. A thrilling buggy ride whisked us past stunning scenery, culminating at the awe-inspiring Guan Yin statue. This magnificent bronze statue, standing tall at 108 meters on a man-made island, was a true spectacle.

In the afternoon, we embarked on another buggy ride, this time to the Luhuitou Hill. The iconic statue here, depicting a deer looking back flanked by a young hunter and a fairy, brought to life a cherished local legend. It was a beautiful reminder of the island's rich folklore.

Day 4: A Celebration of Roses

Our last full day in Hainan was a celebration of romance and beauty at the Yalong Bay Rose Valley. This sprawling haven, built around the theme of love, showcased the island's rose culture in all its glory. From exploring rose cultivation and processing to indulging in rose-derived products, the experience was a sensory delight.

Farewell, Hainan

As January 25th dawned, it was time to bid farewell to Hainan. We departed with suitcases filled with souvenirs and hearts brimming with sweet memories. This tropical escape was more than just a vacation; it was a chance to immerse ourselves in a new culture, savor delicious cuisine, and create memories that will last a lifetime. Until next time, Hainan!
